In memory of my prickly and defensive noobish self, I was pretty sure at that point that anything I'd have heard of couldn't qualify as "cult" since I had heard of it. Of course, had I been smart enough to just admit that instead of trying to live up to my "any genre" claim, I probably wouldn't have been an overconfident noob to begin with. And then how would I have understood what was going on with this other random girl I ran into at a concert?
